This course is intended to teach physical therapists a structured algorithm on how to approach, evaluation and treat complex lumbopelvic pain. Participants will learn an evidence based algorithm that will appropriately subgroup patients into treatment categories, so that maximum effectiveness is achieved. This will include testing and treatment for the SIJ region, in a way that each attendee can leave feeling confident they can assess and treat the lumbopelvic region. Attendees will not leave feeling insecure of their skills or that the SIJ is too complicated. Once a diagnosis has been achieved, there will be a focused review and practice on the best strategies for those who require stabilization or mobilization. Participants will be taught a number of assessment techniques to be able to properly select which manual intervention could be beneficial for a given patient. We will also discuss the most important questions for manual therapy, which are: who is best suited to improve with manual therapy, who is contraindicated, and who will get worse with manual therapy? Also, we will review basic management strategies for patient with chronic pain and why traditional therapy seems to fail those patients. The purpose of this course is to give physical therapist an eclectic, non dogmatic approach, letting the research and evidence guide assessment and treatment.
